Some websites claim that the carnatic equivalent of this raga is Sumanesa-Ranjani.. (yeah, another one of those ‘grey’ areas..:))
Nalam Vazha, Marupadiyum
Pantala Rajakumara, Vasumathi Badrinathan
Srotaswini :
S G2 M1 P N3 S // S N3 P M1 G2 S
Found this raga after a long time thanks to D. All this time, I never knew what the heck would the name of the raga be.. or if even a raga like this existed or IR just mixed and matched… or worse they just stumbled upon it by playing an off-key note somewhere during composition.. whatever.. Also, ‘tfm page’ a popular website has a thread running in which people are almost claiming that IR “invented” a new raga through this song… hmm.. if he did, well.. kudos.. if he did not, atleast he brought it to our attention..and trust me its worth it.. it is just a half note away from Suddha Dhanyasi and renders a completely different feel to it….
Oh Vasantha Raja, Neengal Kettavai
Sindhiya Venmani, Poonthotta Kaavalkaran
Thilang:
S G3 M1 P N3 S // S N2 P M1 G3 S
heard that:
maadaththilE kanni maadaththilE of Veera has the flavour of thilang.
is it so?
@ sridhar,
i think u r right.. but there are also possible traces of ‘naatai/chala naatai’ in it ?? what say ?
Neat effort bringing together these otherwise unrelated ragas….gr8 job AAA!!!
you know mathematics – (i dont know much)- but if you apply perm/comb on g, m, n with two variations each – you should get your answer
My first time to this blog. There is so much to go through. Am doing that now. I spent so much time in my college days doing research on cine-carnatic (jyanasuniyam in both…:-)) But I was better in putting together songs that sound similar back then (8-10 years ago). I am sorry that I forgot so much of what I gathered. I relied on my memory and made no attempts to write down all my findings (a lame reason to stay lazy). You can correct me if I’ve drifted away from the correct raga. Here is my addition to your lists, a few I hummed out to find now. I think you wanted the swara combination and not more songs, but let me interpret it my way…:-)
Srotaswini (someone in a tv program introduced this as Multani kaapi, and I drift to kaapi or to gowrimanohari on occassions):
1)Pujaiketha poovidhu Nethuthane poothadhu (sung by IR)
2)Ponvanam paneerthoovudhu inneram
Thilang/Gambira naatai (rather than me confusing these up – composers do) – there are a ton of these – here is just a few:
1) Peygala nambathey pinjula vembadey (film Mahanadhi)
2) Dil se (AR in Dil se)
3) Bhar Bhar (Lagaan)
4) Ulagile shanti nilava vendum (DKP special – now sung by Nithyashree frequently)
5) Kalaiyayil kettadhu kovil mani (Suddha dhanyasi with Thilang interludes)
A couple more Sala Nattai, melam for Gambira nattai – 1)Panivizhum malarvanam (Ninaivellam nithya), 2)Narumugaye (irvar)
Madhukowns:
1) Kanna sugama Krishna sugama (Not entirely sure. But it is a beautiful song in kaviya thalavi)
Suddha dhanyasi (a ton songs exists but all misram with either tilang or Indholam):
1) Kotti vecha maligai mottu
2) Neeye unakku endrum nigaranavan
3) Varadhu vanda nayagan (Kushboo/Parthiban song)
4) Ulagathukaga pirandhavan naane (Rajini in Paandian?? – mixes well when singing tilang)
-Chandru
HEy people!!gr8 job continue d same..And to add on
