Baskar - Believe me, it was kind of a big deal to get the right size photo... I went to CVS too, but could not get the size you mentioned... atleast the people working there did not have a clue.

i went to CVS and took photo and they have option called 1.4'' * 1.4 '' which is 3.5 cm each. So i don't think it is a big deal to find this size. the size was on their standard template sizes..

You can create valid passport photos with http://idphoto4you.com website. It uses face detection to set size and position of head. It is free.

Prathima - looks like the application form has a 2" x 2" written on it, although the space provided would only fit a 3.5 cm x 3.5 cm. Also the website says the same thing (3.5 sq)... I did notice a couple people in DC who had the 2x2s... So I guess it should be fine. I am a little more paranoid than most, and hence I went through all this to get the exact size.

One factor which could help deciding besides the above rant - choosing epassportphoto - total cost is 6.95 (website) + 0.20 (walgreens)... and you'd get a set of 8 photos printed on a 4"x6" sheet. I cannot remember the cost and the number of photos that you'd get if you did a 2"x2".

wow...no idea how that happened... I have had my PP/visa picture taken at Wagreens before, and I have not received hazy pictures.

The picture quality also depends on the person taking the picture... I went to a CVS where there was this 4 ft tall girl...she took my photo like I was a greek god on a pedestal! I cancelled that order and went to Walgreens after that, where a geeky store manager took my picture. It was perfect, no haze, no shakes, nothing.

And even this time it worked... I submitted my passport for renewal and she did not say anything the photograph I submitted. :-)

Walgreen's pic stinks..I took a PP picture for my visa interview..US Embassy in Chennai rejected it saying it was hazy..and truth be told, it was a bit hazy compared to crystal clear Indian pics..
