Naan Yaar?

I look like a North Indian and when I sometimes travel by Greyhound I look like a Mexican. However, I am a **Tam Brahm** from **Madras** (yes, not chennai..) who was born, raised, educated(?), and everything entirely in Madras. Currently, I am in the so-called “land of opportunities” writing blogs and watching movies. oh yeah, I have a job too, just like you.

I’d like to explain a little bit about my northie and mexican… how shall I put it? ummm…I don’t know.. So, anyway, for ease of use for the *goras* (and less humiliation/embarrasment on my part) I’ve truncated my name to a few letters each in the first and last names.. no..no.. not Steve or Gary or Jimmy or anything… just Arun Sekar. For some reason this name sounds “north indian” to other desis and Indians I meet from time to time and I get the “you don’t look like a madrasi” or “oh really? you are from madras? ohhhhhh! tamizh dhanaaaaa!”…. Why? I don’t know yet.

and a couple times when I was waiting for my bus at the Greyhound station, an apparently-spanish-speaking person, walked up to me and started talking…however, I was looking at the display for the departure time and whatnot, only to realize after he tapped me that he was actually, supposedly, talking to *me*. At this point I gave him a sheepish grin, as best as I could manage, and told him that I did not understand the words coming out of his mouth..well, not exactly, but you know what I mean.

My hobbies (short for) what-I-do-with-most-of-my-time-on-this-planet: music – listening, playing a couple of instruments, screaming on top of my lungs inside the house, in the car, and at live rock concerts, a couple of which I have been to. video games – especially HALO and NFS..whoooo! movies, of course! traveling, photography, and recently, white water rafting, though not to the level of a hobby yet. errr…

and I write about all the above and a little more… so if you have one of those ‘dead fridays’ or ‘lazy weekends’, read some of my posts and I hope it’ll lift your spirits!
