I'm surprised that your FZ4000 does not support 64-bit OS. When I checked, Windows 7 compatibility center told me as well that 64-bit OS would not work on my laptop (due to no driver for the NVIDIA 8400M GT). However, it works perfectly well... I did a clean install even the first time, and did not do an in-place upgrade.... Despite this fact, some of the things on my laptop did not work.. For instance, my video card showed up as a Generic PnP card... and not NVidia 8400m GT.... I did not want to lose the GPU capabilities and so I reverted to Vista Ultimate 32 bit....
